Irina Bazik, Pianist/Researcher

Dr. Irina Bazik is an internationally acclaimed pianist and researcher specializing in the nineteenth century repertoire. Her current research explores female composers-pianists in the nineteenth century, particularly focusing on the ways in which these women challenged tradition and influenced the development of piano repertoire of the time.

Bazik has been performing throughout the world from a young age, winning prizes at international piano competitions in Serbia, Italy, and France. The youngest student to ever be admitted to the Belgrade University of Arts at the age 14, Bazik completed her MMus at the Belgrade Music Academy under Prof. Mirjana Šuica-Babić (Serbia). Upon graduating, Bazik won a full-merit scholarship for the Graduate Diploma Program at the Boston Conservatory under Prof. Michael Lewin. After her studies in Boston, Bazik was awarded a full-merit scholarship and a Teaching Assistantship position at UCLA, where she earned her DMA Degree under Inna Faliks. During her time at UCLA, Bazik held a Gluck Fellowship Award for several years. This fellowship enabled Bazik to share her passion for music with the unprivileged communities, performing at hospitals, veteran homes, senior homes, and the Braille Institute of America.

Bazik currently resides in Toronto, Canada.
